A source from the Cheka-OGPK reported that
At the next Board of Directors there will be an expected change in the management of Aeroflot airline. The change was dictated primarily by a fundamental change in the company’s strategy. Poluboyarinov came to the task of developing and restoring international air travel after Covid. It is no secret that the international trade gave the airline the main profit from which it could afford to provide reasonable prices for air tickets for Russian air travel, including at preferential rates. Thus, out of a passenger turnover of 143,151 million pkm at the end of 2018, the share of international traffic was 83,249, while domestic traffic accounted for 59,901.

At the end of 9 months of 2020, revenue decreased by 55.3% compared to the same period last year, to RUB 234,213 million. primarily due to a reduction in international transport. While at the end of 2021, revenue increased by 62.7% compared to last year, to RUB 491,733 million. A significant reduction in net loss was recorded, to RUB 34,460 million. In recent months, the airline has shown steady growth on international routes and has also been developing a new route network to increase international traffic. The planned income was also used to calculate the increase in wages for flight attendants and pilots of the airline, which Poluboyarinov carried out for the first time after a sharp reduction in response to the decline in air travel due to the onset of Covid.

The sanctions imposed on Russia fundamentally changed the position of Aeroflot Group and its planned profitability. In addition, the airline was left with a fleet consisting mainly of Airbus and Boeing, while new challenges required the construction of a new domestic fleet. The largest operator of Russian aircraft, as is known, is Rossiya Airlines, whose fleet was only expanding with Russian aircraft during the reign of Poluboyarinov.

The obvious solution was to invite the general director of Rossiya Airlines, S. Aleksandrovsky, to continue this course in new conditions, whose person was also nominated and supported by M. Poluboyarinov.
