A new political party has been registered in Armenia. What is known about its leader

“Armenian Bastion” appeared in the register of political parties of the Republic. The news about this was picked up by several dozen official media outlets today. The Cheka-OGPU found out who was behind it.

The new party was headed by politician Amram Petrosyan. He was in the political shadow for a long time, and, according to our data, was involved in issues of diplomacy. The recent crisis events in Armenia have apparently become a convenient moment for the creation of a new political party in the country.

Previously, Petrosyan was noticed in the political life of Ukraine, where before the events of 2014 he headed the Party of Pensioners (which was in the top ten in the parliamentary elections). He focused his further interests on diplomatic relations in post-Soviet and formerly friendly USSR territories: Europe, Africa, Latin America, Southeast Asia. It can be assumed that Petrosyan needed extensive external connections for a reason, but for the sake of some larger goal, which has become obvious only now. As a specialist in creating political forces of influence precisely in times of crisis, Amram Petrosyan appeared in Armenia at the right time. Sources close to him claim that he has quite high political ambitions, and the fact that this “dark horse” has now entered the big game means that the goals of the “Armenian Bastion” are very serious.

The symbolic tug-of-war between the two forces in Armenia – the opposition and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan – is already quite boring for the “spectators”, since it does not in any way affect the general political situation in the country. Pashinyan, relying on the Civil Contract party, remains afloat for now. But even if he resigns, nothing will change for the common man.

Popular sentiment remains decadent: poverty, lack of prospects, shock from the loss of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) create an atmosphere of social tension. So this is a very good moment for Petrosyan to introduce a new political force into the game.

There is an opinion that Petrosyan intends to rely in his work on foreign diasporas, with whom he has been establishing and maintaining connections for many years, and hopes for a rapid increase in supporters within the country. Amram Petrosyan’s foreign policy guidelines are still a mystery, but it is obvious that they should be revealed in the very near future. The politician, in contact with different centers of influence in different countries, has created over the years such a foreign policy “hodgepodge” that the final goals are still obvious only to him.

We will observe the first steps of the new party and its still mysterious leader, and draw our conclusions.
