As the Cheka-OGPU learned, LUKOIL vice-president Vitaly Robertus hanged himself with a cord in his office after learning that it was being developed by the Russian FSB and that he would be arrested for bribing customs officers. Apparently, this information was shared with him by the senior vice president of Lukoil, Oleg Pashayev, with whom Robertus committed suicide.
Robertus’s death became known on March 14, 2024. As follows from the materials of the case of corruption in the Federal Customs Service, which were at the disposal of the channel, it was during this period that the development of Robertus began, and his subordinate – the head of the department for work with customs authorities of PJSC LUKOIL Alexei Stepanov, as well as three high-ranking employees of the Central Energy customs of the Federal Customs Service of Russia Alexey Akimov, Andrey Brekhov and Sergey Petrovich. As a result, on April 2, the Investigative Committee opened a case, and on April 4, they were all sent to a pre-trial detention center and under house arrest. 
The “arrest materials” state that “in the period from February 1, 2023 to March 5, 2024, Robertus BB, Stepanov AA and other unidentified persons gave bribes to employees of the Central Energy Customs of the Federal Customs Service of Russia for committing obviously illegal actions in favor of the briber – transferring statistical data to the bribers materials from the CDB EAIS TO on foreign economic activity of oil producing organizations, constituting a tax secret protected by law.”
Robertus did not wait for them to come for him and took his own life.
