A source from the Cheka-OGPU told the details of the criminal case against police officers from the Internal Affairs Directorate for the South-Eastern Administrative District, who extorted money from a criminal they captured in exchange for freedom. Three people took part in the capture of the experienced car thief, two of whom turned out to be employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the third could be their former boss.

The situation itself happened in August 2023, but the police were captured a few days ago. An operator from a department specializing in catching car thieves was looking for a Mitsubishi Pajero stolen from Tekstilshchiki. Detectives are on the trail of professional car thief Oleg Serebryakov. He managed to take someone else’s car on a tow truck to a familiar “key keeper” on Yaroslavskoye Highway. At the service center, the foreign car was opened, re-flashed, and from there the thief, under his own power, in a car with the wrong license plates of a car-sharing car, left for Mytishchi, where he lay low for a while.

Operatives Astakhov and Verevkin, knowing the hijacker’s scheme, found the criminal and set up an ambush. Some time later, police from the 5th department of the Internal Affairs Directorate seized Oleg Serebryakov at the very moment when he was opening the door of a stolen car. Screaming and firing into the air, the police grabbed him and put him in a service Renault Logan. A car thief who had recently been released from prison offered to “resolve the issue” and was offered 1.5 million rubles. Oleg Serebryakov managed to collect 850 thousand rubles by the evening, and this money was enough to pay off.

The other day, Oleg Serebryakov was again caught for car theft in his native Samara region and the thief handed over the whole situation. “Special officers” used cameras to identify an official car with substitute license plates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and detained two policemen. Astakhov and Verevkin do not admit guilt, but the hijacker identified both. The third participant in the “detention”, who, according to Oleg Serebryakov, also extorted money from him, but was always behind his back until he was identified.

According to a source from the Cheka-OGPU, the former head of the 5th department of the Internal Affairs Directorate, Artyom Graskov, has already been interrogated as part of the case. According to operational data, one of the accused called him at the time the crime was committed and their conversation lasted about half an hour.
