The City Court sentenced former Federation Council employee Alexei Konovalov to 16 years in a maximum security colony.
He killed his parents – a retired SVR colonel and his wife, also a former SVR employee. The -OGPU told the details of this drama.

Scouts 72-year-old Viktor Ivanovich and 74-year-old Valentina Nikolaevna Konovalov spent most of their lives on business trips to countries that were former French colonies. One of them is Algeria, where a revolution took place, and the task of intelligence was to maintain secret ties with members of the FLN (National Liberation Front – a radical movement of the Arab population). The Konovalovs worked at different times in both the PGU (First Main Directorate) and the SVR Directorate (illegal intelligence). Among their friends were mainly diplomats (residency) and GRU officers. The family had a particularly close friendship with the former Russian Ambassador to Kuwait Vladimir Shishov (he worked at the embassy in Algeria) and even for a short time became related to the former Russian Ambassador to Japan Alexander Panov, whose daughter became the first wife of Alexei Konovalov. The latter, who managed to work before Parliament in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and in the State Duma, publicly supported and cared for his elderly parents, even married a second time, but all this did not stop him from committing the cold-blooded murder of his parents on February 5th. At first, Konovalov Jr. denied his involvement, but it turned out that he was captured by a certain “neighbor’s” camera, aimed almost at the door of the intelligence officers’ apartment. The cause of the conflict was maternal oppression due to Alexei’s social status and… his childlessness. They say that Valentina Nikolaevna wanted to babysit her grandchildren so much that she herself began to collect documents for the adoption of a baby from an orphanage.
