As the -OGPU learned, the Military Court of Appeal received a complaint against the sentence of Sergeant Stanislav Ionkin, who participated in the war on the territory of Ukraine, who on November 5, 2022 started a fire in the Polygon nightclub in Kostroma. 13 people became victims of the emergency, provoked by a drunken guard sergeant firing a rocket launcher.

On March 14, the 2nd Western District Military Court sentenced Ionkin to 20 years in prison on charges of murder, intentionally causing moderate harm to health, intentional destruction or damage to property and hooliganism. His lawyer stated that after the verdict comes into force, the soldier will return to the combat zone in Ukraine “in order to atone for his guilt and compensate the victims, as far as possible, for moral damage.”
