Senator Savelyev’s into the criminal case of organizing the murder of his business partner Sergei Ionov approximately coincided with the latter’s unsuccessful attempt through the court to resolve the issue of returning almost 22 million rubles owed to him by OptoMonitoring LLC, of which the accused was a beneficiary. On April 22, Ionov filed a petition with the Arbitration Court to restore the deadline for appealing the court decision of 2020. The court returned his petition on April 25.

The transfer of money to Ionov according to the documents was formalized on the basis of five loan agreements between him and Savelyev and the latter’s trustee Irina Kudryashova. Subsequently, the lenders assigned the right of claim to OptoMonitoring. Ionov claims that the contracts are falsified, and that the money is actually owed to him.

The -OGPU reported that Savelyev had been aware of the criminal case since the spring of this year. He does not admit his guilt in organizing the murder and claims that he became a victim of provocation on the part of Ionov. The latter, in 2022, was convicted of embezzlement of 1.6 million rubles from OptoMonitoring under the guise of travel allowances. Ionov received three years in prison; the Moscow City Court later reduced the sentence to two and a half years.
