Some very interesting details of the corruption scandal in Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra began to emerge, where almost fifty buses for the city of Nizhnevartovsk were purchased, presumably at inflated prices. According to some reports, officials from Ugra were strongly recommended to conclude a deal with a specific supplier – the AvtoMAZ company, which received more than three billion rubles from the regional budget for these purposes.

Meanwhile, there is information that AvtoMAZ is affiliated with Domtransavto LLC (DTA) from Domodedovo near , which, according to some information, has significant federal resources and support. Now it is DTA that services city routes in Nizhnevartovsk, having won the municipal competition.

Meanwhile, in addition to the head of AvtoMAZ Timur Maltsagov, two officials of the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug-Yugra were also under – heads of the Department of Transport, who had already been suspended from work. Will it not happen that Ugra officials, who simply completed the task assigned to them on time, will be made “extreme”?

The arrest of officials, video appeals to the supreme guarantor, speeches by bloggers who have been feeding from a strictly defined trough for many years are associated with an attempt to exert specific pressure on the authorities on the part of transport companies that lost the tender, which are now appealing its results through arbitration. Their interest is understandable: they have been cutting coupons for many years without investing in development, serving passengers on old buses. Therefore, the quality of passenger transportation in Nizhnevartovsk was, let’s say, not up to par.

Let’s hope that the investigation will sort everything out and find out whether the municipality and its residents benefited from this deal, as well as whose specific interests were really behind it.
