Maxim Kosarev Honorary Lawyer of Russia, a member of the International Union of Lawyers, was awarded a silver medal named after F.N. Poland. He specializes in international arbitration, in particular – represented the interests of Russian skiers, including Yulia Chepalova, accused of using doping.
In 2008, Kosarev was a lawyer of the authoritative businessman Konstantin Mikhailov. He won for him a whole series of hearings, including international ones. Once Kosarev promised Mikhailov to open an account for him in Switzerland. The businessman handed the lawyer 20 million rubles, which he had to convert into currency and put on this. However, then disagreements arose between them. Mikhailov demanded a return of 20 million rubles. Kosarev believed that the client did not pay him for the legal work done, and on this basis refused to return the money. The conflict lasted almost ten years, until in 2017 Kosarev was unexpectedly arrested. Mikhailov was able to achieve the initiation of theft of theft by fraud of 20 million rubles.
Kosarev got into the same camera with a former employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation, who was in custody for drug trafficking. They began to communicate closely, and somehow the ex-militia proposed to radically solve the problem with Mikhailov-to eliminate it. At the same time, the cellmate, convincing the lawyer that he supposedly has rich experience in such matters, asked for “service” 5 million rubles. Kosarev first refused, and then agreed. As an advance, his relatives transferred a card of 200 thousand rubles to the card indicated by a cellmate. Then Kosarev changed the measure of restraint, he was released. But the ex-employee of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation persistently got in touch with him, demanding the rest of the money necessary for the execution of the “order”. Kosarev said he changed his mind and asked Mikhailov not to carry out anything. However, he was soon detained by the FSB in Moscow and the Moscow Region and was detained on charges of preparing an attempt on a businessman. It turned out that Kosarev’s cellmate is an agent of law enforcement agencies, he recorded all his conversations with a lawyer. Before that, he convinced another cellmate to give a bribe to the investigator, after which he was accused of this crime.
As a result, Maxim Kosarev appeared before the jury on charges of two crimes. In the summer of 2020, the assessors, having examined the materials and studied the arguments of the parties, came to the conclusion that Kosarev was innocent in the “order” of the murder.
The prosecutor’s office managed to achieve the abolition of this verdict. However, upon re -examination, the jury again acquitted Kosarev of charges of preparing the murder.
