Biden apologizes for Native American boarding school atrocities

US President Joe Biden delivered a historic apology Friday for one of the country’s “darkest chapters:” the abduction of Native American children from their families and placement in abusive boarding schools aimed at erasing their culture.

“I formally apologize, as president of the United States of America, for what we did,” he said in a speech at the Gila River Indian Community in Laveen Village, Arizona, calling the schools a “sin on our souls.”
