The -OGPU found out the probable cause of the failed suicide of the former Minister of Sports of Dagestan Magomed Magomedov, who has been held in the pre-trial detention center “Matrosskaya Tishina” since October 2023. The ex-official inflicted wounds on himself on the night of July 20, but he was saved at the Sklifosovsky Research Institute. The day before the suicide attempt, the Main Investigative Directorate of the filed a new charge against Magomedov under paragraphs “a”, “e”, “g”, Part 2 of Art. 105 of the Criminal Code of the (murder), part 4 of Art. 222 (illegal arms trafficking), part 4 of Art. 160 (embezzlement), part 2, art. 205.1 (involvement in terrorist activities using official position). Initially, the former minister was accused only of embezzlement; later, more “severe articles” appeared in his criminal case.

At the moment, the statute of limitations for criminal cases under articles of murder and terrorism has expired. An into murders and illegal weapons trafficking against unidentified persons was launched on August 3, 2006 by the Kizilyurt interdistrict prosecutor’s office. At the same time, in accordance with Part 3 of Art. 91 of the Code of Criminal Procedure of the Russian Federation, a person may be detained on suspicion of committing a crime for which the statute of limitations for criminal prosecution has expired, if he is suspected or accused of committing a crime punishable by death or life imprisonment. The issue of applying the statute of limitations in this case is decided by the court.
