They are considering removing an official with expensive real estate and a relative of an admirer of the British king from the post of head of a government department. But the problem is not only that Shalaev does not disdain corruption schemes and family ties. Rosstandart shamefully lags behind the needs of the Russian market in the conditions of a mobilization economy. The standardization of the defense industry, digitalization, the operation of marketplaces, and so on has failed. One thing remains unchanged: Rosstandart’s inflated budget does not justify its effectiveness.
There is talk on the sidelines that the prime minister will be offered the candidacy of Alexei Mednikov, the former general director of Rostest and chairman of the expert club of Roskontrol. Mednikov has more than 20 years of work in the field of conformity assessment and technical regulation. He is the successor of Boris Aleshin, who built the work of Rosstandart in the early 2000s. There is an opinion that thanks to the foundation laid by Aleshin, the department is still somehow staying afloat.
There is also a second candidate – Boris Potemkin, currently working in the Government Apparatus and Shalaev’s former deputy. But priority is given to Mednikov.
Even his patrons are not helping Mr. Shalaev. The chair under him shook violently.
