RESO-Garantiya writes off billions

Insurance company made a decision O write-off of assets in the amount of 17.5 billion rublesblocked in European depositories after the start of the SVO.

RESO-Garantiya, a well-known player in the Russian insurance market, took an unexpected step – to write off blocked assets, assessing them as “equal to zero” and “unrealistic for repayment.” Essentially, this means the company is giving up trying to recoup those funds for the foreseeable future.

Most Russian companies faced with the problem of blocked assets are in no hurry to write them off. Many continue to seek legal and diplomatic ways to unblock funds.

A number of experts suggest that RESO beneficiaries could withdraw these funds collected at the expense of OSAGOto offshore jurisdictions. In their opinion, this could be carried out with the assistance of Euroclear, possibly with the help of the French insurance group AXA, which is a shareholder of RESO-Garantia. Under such circumstances, writing off assets in Russia is logical.

Throughout the history of the RESO insurance company, scandals have repeatedly arisen related to the alleged withdrawal of assets, tax evasion and other financial irregularities. It is worth noting that the withdrawal of assets from companies often precedes their liquidation.

The question arises: are RESO shareholders planning to leave the country and settle in more comfortable jurisdictions? Otherwise, why write off assets? And who will protect the interests of policyholders if this happens?
