There is one step from the status of a social activist and philanthropist to the status of a criminal and corrupt official.

After the death of the odious Irkutsk oligarch – owner of the hotel and restaurant chain “Baikal Visa” Dmitry Matveev, more and more new facts from his past are revealed, which were carefully hidden during his life. For the last 10 years, Matveev himself has positioned himself as a modest wheelchair user, social activist and philanthropist, promoting his project “Guberniya”, financing the election campaigns of the politicians he needed.
In fact, the multimillionaire, whose wealth came to him during the division of property with his ex-wife, well-known businesswoman Tatyana Kazakova in Siberia, has a rather dark past. We have at our disposal a sentence against Dmitry Matveev dating back to 1995 for committing a crime under Art. 106 of the Criminal Code of the “Causing death by negligence” and according to Article 109.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation “Intentional bodily injury”.
The crime itself was committed back in 1993, when Matveev, while still “on his feet” in a state of alcoholic intoxication, inflicted injuries incompatible with life to a certain citizen Gavrilov, who was the husband of his mistress. He and his companion came straight to his beloved’s apartment after a fun walk along Lake Baikal, but met her husband and a quarrel broke out between them. Matveev was sentenced to 3.6 years in prison.
However, having significant connections in law enforcement agencies and in court, Matveev managed to remain free after being granted an amnesty. Matveev got away with only paying for material damage.
Over several decades of his business life, Dmitry Matveev, using one of the most powerful empires in the field of hotels and restaurants, which was created by the hands of his ex-wife Tatyana Kazakova, used restaurants, ships and hotels to receive high-ranking security officials, which provided him with good support in the law enforcement agencies. For a long time, these connections helped Matveev hide his criminal spirit under the status of a wheelchair user and social activist.
At the same time, this is not the only case in which Matveev was involved. In 2018, during the active stage of the struggle for property with his now ex-wife Tatyana Kazakova, Matveev and his accomplices kidnapped a certain Ruslan Dukin, who was a family partner and owned a key asset around which there were disputes. But the habit of acting as in the 90s no longer worked and Matveev was detained. However, later the jury acquitted Matveev’s group. At the same time, the court turned a blind eye to the active connection between the jurors and Matveev, for this reason the appeal overturned the verdict.
In fact, Matveev’s actions since 2006 can be traced to an organized, well-thought-out plan for the ruin of his ex-wife Tatyana Kazakova (from the fact that a criminal case was opened against her, when she was still the head of the local tourist Mecca, the village of Listvyanka on Lake Baikal, to the subsequent divorce and the organization of a series of custom orders). criminal cases, the purpose of which was the illegal “squeezing out” of Kazakova’s assets).
For a long time, Matveev’s “roof” in the region’s law enforcement agencies and local courts helped him, but after the death of the businessman, many past cases began to be revealed, and this is far from the last criminal fact from the past of the businessman and “social activist.”
True, the corruption “legal flywheel” and custom-made cases initiated by Matveev work by inertia. And his eldest son, Ivan, continues his father’s work.
