The Main Military Investigation Department of the Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against the head of the Main Communications Directorate – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Vadim Shamarin. He is suspected of receiving a bribe on an especially large scale.
According to the investigation, in the period from April 2016 to October 2023, Shamarin received a bribe from the general director of Perm Telephone Plant Telta OJSC Alexey Vysokov and the chief accountant of the same company Elena Grishina in the amount of 36 million rubles for increasing the volume of products supplied under government contracts for the needs of the Russian Ministry of Defense and general patronage. Shamarin disposed of the funds received at his own discretion.
On May 22, 2024, Shamarin was detained; at the request of the investigation, the court chose a preventive measure in the form of detention against him.
Vysokov and Grishina are also facing criminal charges and are in custody.
