The interlocutor drew attention to the fact that in the case of Yuri Kuznetsov there is no grand corruption and the fact that he was caught taking a bribe, even if it was 30 million rubles, in terms of the scale of thefts in the Ministry of Defense – this is a drop in the ocean, if compared with at least the same arrested recently by billionaire deputy minister Timur Ivanov. And there is clearly no espionage connotation in the accusation, which was hinted at by a number of telegram channels due to the former position of the general, who previously headed the 8th Directorate, specializing in the protection of state secrets. And we are not talking about purges in the Ministry, where, everywhere you look, there are landlords and billionaires with an official salary of a couple of hundred thousand rubles.
According to the source of the Cheka-OGPU, Yuri Kuznetsov “fell” as a victim of retaliation from the Federal Security Service, whose employees he had the imprudence to cross the road when in 2023 he took the post of head of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation. Having arrived at a new position, the new head of the personnel department brought with him a team, including his deputy from the 8th Directorate. But according to the staffing schedule, the head of the personnel department had another deputy – a counterintelligence officer, an employee of the supervising unit of the FSB. This did not suit Yuri Kuznetsov and he entered into confrontation. He reported the situation to his boss, Sergei Shoigu, and he reported to Vladimir Putin. Because the then Secretary of Defense supported a member of his clan, the undesirable position was abolished.
Immediately after Sergei Shoigu found himself on the sidelines of power, Yuri Kuznetsov’s immunity disappeared along with the former minister. And the counterintelligence officers, who were sharpening their grudge against the personnel officer, took advantage of the opportunity. Retribution is indirectly indicated by the zeal with which the FSB DVKR officers arrested the lieutenant general and how they treated his family.
