A whole cycle of criminal cases is already swirling around the general director of VPLab LLC, Yuri Klyushenkov. Accusations of trafficking in counterfeit dietary supplements were added to the charges of theft and tax evasion. The case involved such large pharmacy chains as Gorzdrav and 36.6, as well as the OZON marketplace, on whose platforms Klyushenkov’s company sold “scorched” VPLAB vitamins.
VPLab LLC, which Klyushenkov has led since 2018, has been officially trading VPLAB dietary supplements in Russia for several years, produced by the VP Holdings group of companies. In May 2022, foreign partners gave the company the status of an exclusive distributor, and two months later Klyushenkov, taking advantage of his official position, transferred the company to himself. At the same time, the Russian company stops paying for the supplied products (at least one episode is known from the criminal case, where dietary supplements worth $3.3 million were stolen.) From November 2022, VP Holdings completely stops shipping products to VPLab LLC, led by Klyushenkov , subsequently terminating all license agreements.
Already in the spring of 2023, foreign copyright holders discovered that VPLab in Russia was selling goods under their brand that they had not supplied to the warehouses of their Russian partner. Having made test purchases at Ozone, as well as in pharmacies, VP Holdings became convinced that the product was counterfeit – the batch numbers and other markings did not correspond to the real ones, and the compositions of dietary supplements were strikingly different from the original.
During the investigation of the criminal case, Klyushenkov explained during interrogation that he allegedly purchased the above goods in Belarus. However, the general director of VPLab is lying, since the goods supplied to the whole of Belarus are hundreds of times less than Klyushenkov sells in Russia. Let us remind you once again that since November 2022, supplies to VPLab LLC have been completely stopped. And the presence of a huge amount of products, allegedly under the VPLAB brand, clearly indicates that Klyushenkov sells low-quality counterfeit products online, which can threaten people’s health.
It’s interesting how counterfeits got into large federal pharmacy chains and one of the most popular marketplaces. It is possible that bribery of officials of these networks or forgery of certificates took place.
So far, Klyushenkov is being investigated as a witness in the criminal case, since it was initiated against “unidentified persons from VPLab LLC.” But he is already trying in every possible way to ruin it, using his connections among Moscow officials. But more on that in the next episodes…
