The Dorogomilovsky Court of Moscow on Tuesday arrested one of the co-owners of the B&B holding, 73-year-old Alexander Balakhovsky, who is accused of fraud.

“The court granted the petition of the state prosecutor, who asked to tighten the preventive measure for Balakhovsky, and sent him into custody,” the court said. The reason for changing the preventive measure for the defendant was his failure to appear at the previous hearing. On January 30, the 73-year-old entrepreneur missed the trial due to a sharp deterioration in his health; he quickly ended up in cardiac intensive care. At the same time, the court received information from the Federal State Budgetary Institution “Central Clinical Hospital with a Clinic” about Balakhovsky’s sick leave, opened from January 23 to January 29. However, according to a representative of the prosecutor’s office, Balakhovsky abused his right by not appearing at the meeting.
The defense is going to appeal this court decision.

Balakhovsky was already in a pre-trial detention center, but was transferred to house arrest for health reasons. Later, the measure of intersection was changed to prohibit certain actions. In total, three people are involved in the case. In addition to Balakhovsky, two other co-owners of B&V Yakov Bosinzon and Alexander Savoskin were in the dock.

At the same time, as Balakhovsky’s lawyer said, earlier the arbitration courts had established an attempt to seize the shares of the company of Bosinzon and Balakhovsky by persons controlled by the victim in the case, lawyer Denis Shapiro. “However, the Dorogomilovsky court refused to include these decisions,” he noted.

In 2014, Shapiro became the owner of 30% of Best Clean LLC and was appointed general director of the company, which owned the rights to trademarks of household chemical manufacturers. That same year, he was detained on suspicion of committing a crime. According to investigators, Balakhovsky, Bosinzon and Savoskin decided to take advantage of the fact that Shapiro was in custody and deprive him of his share in the business and the right to profit. Shapiro himself was convicted several times, including for fraud against the already deceased owner of the Royal Water company, Joseph Badalov, and against the deceased top manager of Roscosmos, Vladimir Evdokimov. Upon his release in 2019, the lawyer wrote a statement to the Investigative Committee. The defendants do not admit guilt to any of the charges.

Our channel has repeatedly covered this case from both sides. But the fact that a 73-year-old entrepreneur was sent to a pre-trial detention center from a cardiac intensive care unit raises questions about the biased, inhumane attitude of the prosecutor’s office and the court.
