Our sources suggest that he could provide information and provided protection for a number of local organized crime groups, in particular one of them, which extorted 20 million rubles from a local businessman. Six villains of this group were detained on December 31 last year. Traditionally, Mardanov himself managed to avoid suspicion. This is definitely not the first criminal episode in his career and, presumably, not the last. 
As we reported, Mardanov loudly announced himself for the first time in 2010, ordering an arrest for the famous businessman Dmitry Kozlovsky, who had previously been kidnapped by Dagestani security forces from Moscow and transported to Derbent. In order to “hush up” the fabricated case, Kozlovsky and his brother were offered to pay from 20 to 35 million dollars. The businessman was saved only by the loud reaction of the media. It still worked then.
A criminal case was opened against Islam Mardanov for abuse of power, but with the help of his patrons, the case was not only hushed up, but also promoted through the ranks. Soon the investigator received a promotion to deputy head of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the Republic of Dagestan. This is how customers appreciated Mardanov’s dedication.
It must be admitted that the former investigator tried to stop communicating with the criminal sphere. But my lifestyle didn’t allow it. In 2016, debts forced him to sell everything he had acquired through “backbreaking labor” of a Dagestan investigator: a Land Rover jeep; house of 180 sq. meters and a hotel complex to boot; a plot of land for 100 acres, and a three-ruble ruble in the center with a garage.
Apparently, in order to pay off, the acquired property was not enough and the investigator again began to solve his financial problems in a way known to him. Fortunately, in criminal circles he is valued not only for his recklessness, but also for his diligence.
