The Leningrad region is truly beautiful, where reports of searches and arrests of local officials fly like a machine gun. This time, our colleagues from Lisa simply reported resignations: the head of the Committee for Natural Resources, Denis Belyaev, and his deputy, Nikolai Volchuga, lost their positions. And everything would be fine, but according to the Cheka-OGPU, in this case too it could not have happened without a visit from the security forces. The day before the dismissal of the officials, UEB and PC operatives, accompanying the Investigative Committee investigator, visited their offices. The visit is related to a criminal investigation into the theft of money from logging contracts. Let us note that Belyaev’s deputy Volchuga in the past headed one of the regional forestries and was already a defendant in a criminal case (as you can see, in the Leningrad region such a trifle is not an obstacle to occupying the position of a responsible official).
But we’d better look at the figure of Denis Belyaev, who before becoming the head of the committee held a similar position in neighboring St. Petersburg for two years. From there, Denis was driven away, because thanks to his actions, the rivers and canals of Northern Venice almost turned into rotting swamps. By the way, according to the Cheka-OGPU, the FSB Directorate for St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region is developing material on the theft of money during dredging works of the State Unitary Enterprise “Ekostroy”, which was under the jurisdiction of Belyaev. So, in the future, the now former official may face another criminal case.
In general, Denis often takes the position of head of various departments related to nature. For about 7 years he headed the Northwestern Directorate of Rosrybolovstvo, where at that time a number of scandalous stories happened. Then for a year he managed the Research Institute of Lake and River Fisheries, which after that was completely liquidated. People who know Belyaev note not only his addiction to strong alcohol, but also his luxurious craving for cocaine for an official.
But how then could such an unsuitable person jump from one leadership chair to another and even work in the Plenipotentiary Mission for the Northwestern Federal District, the reader will ask? We answer: in the normal Russian power paradigm, an official should have only one thing – good family ties. And our hero is the son-in-law of Alexander Polukeev, a powerful vice-governor from the team of Valentina Matvienko, who led St. Petersburg, who was then deputy Plenipotentiary Representative for the Northwestern Federal District. Now Alexander Ivanovich is already in business, but has not lost his influence in St. Petersburg at all. So, most likely, Belyaev will come out of his new criminal adventures unscathed, and we will look forward to his “surfacing” in the new leadership chair.

In the Leningrad region today, August 30, there are serious changes. Or rather, two dismissals at once. The offices will be vacated by the chairman of the regional committee on natural resources, Denis Belyaev, and his first deputy, Nikolai Volchuga. The dismissals were preceded by searches in the committee…
