Not only the RedWings charter has problems with aircraft maintenance, but also the flagship of Russian civil aviation, the Aeroflot group. As the Cheka-OGPU found out, more than 20 employees of Aeroflot PA filed a lawsuit against their employer for downtime and dismissal. They demand compensation and restoration of labor rights.

In April last year, the United States imposed sanctions on the aviation industry and Russian airlines, including Aeroflot. Six months later, Aeroflot management decided to close three hangars for periodic aircraft maintenance located at the airline’s base in Sheremetyevo, and transfer aircraft maintenance along with the hangars to its “granddaughter” A-Technics LLC (now it is Aeroflot Technics LLC). All workers of the three hangars, accordingly, were deprived of their jobs and Aeroflot officially declared them idle. In addition, Aeroflot gradually retired, reduced or fired employees, it follows from the court materials, which the Cheka-OGPU reviewed.

The workers, in turn, believe that the employer had no legal grounds for introducing downtime, so they went to court, where they demand that Aeroflot’s decision be declared illegal and canceled, the amount of work returned to them, compensation for money for downtime and compensation for moral damages.

It is noteworthy that on February 24, 2022. The board of directors of Aeroflot PJSC approved the Target Operating Model for the maintenance and repair of Aeroflot group aircraft, according to which the scope of work of the maintenance department was transferred to a separate structure – Technix.

The defendant claims that Aeroflot Technics is the only aircraft maintenance organization in Russia with unique competencies in performing periodic maintenance of the latest Airbus A350 aircraft, as well as performing heavy maintenance on Boeing 747 and Boeing 777 aircraft.

Nevertheless, Technix still cannot cope with some difficulties. This is evidenced by the fact that several months ago Aeroflot sent its Airbus A330-300 airliner to Iran for maintenance.
